We are very proud of the staff of our school. They have made our school the success that it is.

Hello! I am a Primary and Kindergarten Teacher. I received my Bachelors degree in elementary education in December of 1994. Over the years, I have taught in traditional private schools in a 4th, 5th, 6th grade multi age classroom, in a 1st grade and 2nd grade classroom and in a Preschool and Kindergarten classroom. I previously taught in preschools in Arizona and Colorado and then taught and directed a preschool in Delta, Colorado. After directing the preschool in Delta, CO, my family and I found the Montessori school in Hotchkiss, CO and I enjoyed the secretary position for a number of years. When our Montessori school expanded, I was blessed to have the opportunity to return to school and receive my Montessori education in the summer of 2015. I believe in the Montessori philosophy and how it can serve the "Whole child." I love teaching at our Montessori school.
Hello, and welcome to Crawford! I grew up outside the United States, and cherish this country, and what it stands for, to the depths of my soul. I feel so blessed, to be teaching children in this valley, where families support each other, as a given, in their daily lives. I feel privileged to be part of a team that works together to make sure every child in our care feels safe, has a sense of purpose, and can self-regulate. I had a student say, once: "My teacher taught me the most important thing. I learned to be me." It's not easy, in this information-soaked world, even for us grownups, to know who we were born to be, who we always will be. But this school really does respect each family's culture, and witnessing children sharing that, well, that's just sheer beauty!
Hello! My name is Becky Kiefer, and I'm a Lead Teacher in Lower El with Assistant Käthe Owens. I'm in my seventh year of teaching with the last five at our school. I am a Montessori-convert who taught third grade in a “traditional” school in our district prior to making the jump, in search of a better way to teach and learn from and with students.
I am a Highly Qualified, State Certified Teacher who's also completed some of the Montessori teacher training through the online program, Center for Guided Montessori Studies. I have attended a Lower El summer residency in Durham, North Carolina. I come to NFM@C with a “standards based background" mixed with some Montessori philosophy and training, which enables me to meet the children where they are, while guiding them to where they are expected to be.
I am so grateful to be a part of the learning community at our school. I am a co-teacher in Upper El. with Esther and the art teacher for all students grades K-6. My work with students includes Reading/Writing/Communicating, research, and all things creative (and sometimes messy). I love helping students to discover meaning/joy in reading, to find their voices as writers, and to express their visions as artists. I value each student as an individual learner and each day I strive to help foster a supportive environment. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (in ceramics), a K-12 Art Teacher Licensure, Elementary Education Licensure, and a Master of Arts degree (in community art). I have also completed additional coursework in literacy instruction, Montessori philosophy, and Montessori mathematics. I have teaching experience at all levels-early childhood through adult. Thanks for sharing your children with me!
Howdy. I am Sara Puharich, the Co-teacher in Upper El. Elementary classroom with Fran Stein. In the summer 2015, I completed my Montessori certification through Montessori Education Center of the Rockies. Before becoming an educator, I was a rancher raising grass-fed beef, a kitchen manager at a conference and retreat center, and a camp counselor on wilderness trips.
I became interested in Montessori education with the birth of my daughter in 2010. The more I study and teach, the more the Montessori philosophy and methods of teaching inspire me. I am heartened by the broad context of the curriculum, which connects students to the whole system in which we live (The Universe). And I am passionate about the independence and responsibility which we foster in our classroom.
I am grateful to work with Fran. She has so much experience with classroom management and standards based teaching. I learn from her on a daily basis. We share a common passion: to meet each individual child and assist them as they take the next step in front of them, building confidence, character, and mastering the basics in a FUN way. Together we look forward to another year of learning!

My professional K-6 General Music teaching career began in 1988. The majority of my teaching has been in Boulder Valley Schools before beginning at our North Fork Montessori School in 2008. Since “semi-retiring” in that same year, I continue to enjoy teaching and working with all our tremendously gifted staff. It has always been a wonderfully positive collaboration of energy and good will.
